Client stories: an exciting collaboration for MMP and G Stow.
MMP Marine & Inspection recently completed a borehole micro remote operated vehicle survey for G Stow… with first class results.
MMP Marine & Inspection have recently formed a new working relationship with G Stow - leading experts in geothermal drilling, boreholes and water wells. G Stow has a rich 100 year history in water engineering; needless to say, we were delighted that they commissioned us to support them with their latest project.
G Stow were looking to recommission a borehole that had been out of use for 50 years. Before getting started, they needed expert guidance on a potential obstruction getting in the way of them administering their work. And that’s where we came in.
G Stow required a survey to investigate an obstruction preventing the removal of two 120 year old riser pipes within the borehole.
This would require a micro remote operated vehicle (ROV) survey. Luckily, this is something MMP is experienced, confident and efficient in.
There was limited and confined space access into the borehole, and so we needed to lower our micro ROV down all the way to water level in order to properly investigate. Once we’d settled our ROV at the right level, we were able to quickly identify the issue: an I beam had been built into the brickwork, and this was preventing the old riser pipes from being lifted.
MMP surveyed across a 30 metre water depth to ensure we were giving the very best advice.
After thoroughly inspecting the area, we were able to provide our final recommendation to G Stow: the best course of action was to cut the beams out using commercial divers and underwater cutting equipment.
Due to COVID, stage two work have been delayed; however, this is something we will support them with when the time arises.
A big thank you to everyone involved in this project - and to G Stow for trusting us with the operation!
